“My Favorite Movies” Series – Oscar Special: Ben-Hur

I decided I would post trailers of my favorite movies. One per post. Sorry in advance if the movies become broken because they’ll all be linked from youtube. Here’s day 81:

Since this past Sunday, March 7th was Oscar night, I thought I’d do a themed week of my favorite movies which have won the Oscar for best picture. So, enjoy 5 days of films that have received the gold statue.

Ben-Hur. William Wyler’s Ben-Hur is classic! It is a great example of the old Hollywood epics. Those films had elaborate sets, casts of thousands, and gorgeous costumes. I remember watching this film as a child on vhs. As you all know, those vhs tapes always cut off the sides of widescreen films so it would fit the square aspect-ratio of your television. However, when the famous chariot race began, I was shocked to see the picture converting to letterbox format. Yes, a sequence so epic that it could ONLY be shown in glorious widescreen.
