Idea for Paying the National Debt: The public option

By Tony DelgadoMonday - August 24th, 2009Categories: strip commentary

I guess I should mention something first in my commentary for the latest comic. I DO support healthcare reform and I am an Obama supporter. However, I do also believe that during the past eight years we’ve really dug ourselves a hole to China in the form of national debt. Healthcare Reform will probably add to this, not alleviate it. The idea that we can just reduce the number of extraneous tests performed by doctors and move some monies from here to there on paper to pay for this plan feels too good to be true. I’m only basing this belief on the government’s consistent inability to run on anything besides a deficit. My hope is that Obama will bring back a Clintonian focus on budgetary balance that will allow us to slow the racing debt clock to a halt again.  Otherwise, we very well may be sending our checks straight to China.

It’s an honest mistake!!!

By Tony DelgadoMonday - August 17th, 2009Categories: strip commentary

Sadly, I didn’t actually make this mistake in real life, but walking downtown I have noticed the similarity of some backpackers and homeless folks. Thus comes the origin of this comic.  Increasingly, I’m seeing more and more homeless folks standing by the highway around here with a sign, asking for money. It must be the result of the economic downturn. Funnily enough, I’ve been told some of these folks begging for money are now being arrested by the police because they are NOT homeless and NOT unemployed!! I guess some people will do anything to get some money. Maybe I’ll throw on some of my hiking gear and stand out by the highway myself. My sign will say, “Tony needs a new pair of shoes. Any donations welcome.”

A little humor at Clinton’s expense

By Tony DelgadoMonday - August 10th, 2009Categories: strip commentary

I had another strip coming down the pipeline but I bumped it till next week. I knew that when I saw the news about Clinton’s amazing negotiation and rescue of reporters Euna Lee and Laura Ling, I had to comment on it.  It really was quite amazing. How many of can literally say we saved two people…literally.

I had a little fun with Bill Clinton’s reputation here, but I’ve got to admit that as time goes by, he just ends up looking better and better as a president. I remember in 1999 he was portrayed as an immoral cad, but now on the otherside of a painful 8 year Bush administration that makes Nixon look like an altar boy Clinton comes off pretty good.

I was really upset about the arrest and sentencing of two of our citizens in North Korea so I’m glad to see a good resolution come about. Also, what a way to make a major comeback into the mainstream by Bill. Holy cow. Anyway, what a power center Obama has. Hillary as his secretary of state and Bill as his diplomatic genie. It’s like Wonder Man and the Scarlet Witch for all you comic fans out there!!!
