I decided I would post trailers of my favorite movies. One per post. Sorry in advance if the movies become broken because they’ll all be linked from youtube. Here’s day 73:
Open Range While I’ve already mentioned that I believe that the western genre is dead (with Unforgiven being the farewell ceremony), it should be noted that once in a while it will rise to walk the earth again inexplicably. Costner’s Open Range is one of those exceptions to my “westerns are dead” proclamation. It’s an excellent film, starring an excellent cast. It also features one of the best western gunfights ever! Yes, the gunfight is that good.

Terminator. James Cameron proved early on with this film that he is a master of the action genre. The movie that launched Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career. True, the sequel to this film is better, but this one is pretty awesome also!

Alphaville. Jean-Luc Godard’s sci-fi noir classic is as bizarre as it is fascinating. Godard took a pulp fiction detective character and placed him in a near future sci-fi film. The result is a film that is hard not to watch! Also, the voice of the computer, heard in this trailer, is about as memorable as you can get.

Annie Hall. Woody Allen’s masterpiece is still funny and touching to this day. There are so many great lines and memorable scenes. If you haven’t seen it, you should watch it immediately!

Rope. Another film from the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. This is one of Hitchcock’s more experimental films. As a result it doesn’t succeed as well as his out and out masterpieces, but an ok film by a great director is often as good as a great film by less-talented directed. In this flick, Hitch tried to avoid cutting ever. See how well he succeeded and see how he handles the problems of implementing this idea with the technology of the era.
As you can tell, I’ve been missing some updates! Gasp! Anyway, I had some major computer problems and I’ve finally resolved the issue (as you can tell since I’m posting this). Anyway, normal updates will resume on Monday. As far as the Chess 365 Project. I’ll post make-up days then too so I’m all caught up.

Beverly Hills Cop This week in honor of Black History Month we’re going to do all movies either starring, directed by, or about African Americans. I love this movie! I’ve watched it about a million times and continue to enjoy it. Eddie Murphy is just so appealing and funny that he is able to carry the whole film. Also, who doesn’t love Harold Faltermeyer’s theme?

Menace II Society. This week in honor of Black History Month we’re going to do all movies either starring, directed by, or about African Americans. The Hughes Brothers Menace II Society is like a companion piece to last week’s pick, Boyz N the Hood. However, it is decidedly darker. While Boyz certainly has it’s dark moments, I find it doesn’t disturb me as much as Menace II Society. That said, don’t choose to watch one over the other. Watch ‘em both!! They’re good.

Ali. This week in honor of Black History Month we’re going to do all movies either starring, directed by, or about African Americans. Michael Mann’s biopic about Muhammad Ali is a blast to watch. With an all-star cast of Will Smith, Jon Voight, Jamie Foxx, Mario Van Peebles and others, it is definitely worth watching.
I really enjoy historical dramas anyway, but Ali’s life crisscrosses over so many historical figures and movements that it’s fascinating to watch.

In the Heat of the Night. — This week in honor of Black History Month we’re going to do all movies either starring, directed by, or about African Americans — Some actors deliver lines so well that it’s just a joy to listen to them speak. Sidney Poitier is one of those actors. This movie is just a great watch all around. Check it out.
